Bespoke Outdoor Sauna Installation : HOLLAND PARK, LONDON
A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF USING EXISTING SPACE EFFICIENTLY
Our first outdoor sauna was built in this house in Holland Park owned by a German banker whose main residence is in Switzerland. An avid sauna enthusiast, he has saunas in all of his houses so he knew exactly what he wanted, the only problem was where to locate the sauna as the town house was fully extended before we turned up.
The only place we could install the sauna was in an existing garden shed being used for storage. Rather than building from scratch, we retained the roof structure and re-clad the shed in pre-painted black timber, adding a new glazed door and window to bring in light and enhance the aesthetic.
MATERIALS:
The sauna is clad in Thermo Aspen, a premium wood known for its rich, golden-brown hue and pleasant, toasted aroma. Enhanced through a natural thermal treatment involving heat and steam, thermo aspen is as durable as it is beautiful. The cladding has been installed horizontally, adding a sense of spaciousness to the room. The glass front and door connecting the sauna to the shower amplify the sense of openness.

HUUM CLIFF Wi-Fi Sauna Heater:
The heater used in this project was the HUUM CLIFF electric sauna heater with Wi-Fi connectivity. This award-winning heater features a striking natural stone surface that reflects the rugged beauty of Nordic cliffs, making it both a functional and aesthetic centrepiece of the sauna. Beyond its visual appeal, the CLIFF heater is engineered for efficiency and sustainability—its body is crafted from stainless steel cutouts leftover from the production of HUUM’s STEEL heaters, reducing metal waste and maximising material use. Its slim profile and minimal safety clearance requirements make it ideal for compact sauna installations like this one. Inside, an integrated air tunnel speeds up the heating process by 25% while also extending the life of the heating elements.
With a high stone capacity, the CLIFF delivers soft, long-lasting steam, enhancing the overall löyly experience. Recognised for its innovative design and eco-conscious construction, the HUUM CLIFF heater received the prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design in 2021.
