At Winnington Road, London, we built a bespoke compact sauna within a private washroom, designed to maximise comfort and efficiency within a limited space. Despite its smaller footprint, the sauna feels bright and welcoming, combining timeless materials with a modern layout.

The structure was built in CLS timber, fully insulated, and finished with a slimline vapour barrier. The interior is clad throughout in Thermo Aspen, chosen for its dark tone, smooth texture, and ability to remain cool to the touch at high temperatures. The use of horizontal Thermo Aspen cladding across the walls and ceiling creates clean lines, a sense of balance, and a visually open feel within the compact washroom setting.
MATERIALS
​
The sauna interior is finished in Thermo Aspen, a premium sauna wood known for its light tone, smooth texture, and natural resistance to heat. Its ability to remain cool against the skin makes it an ideal choice for a compact washroom sauna, ensuring both comfort and durability.
​
All interior surfaces—including walls, ceiling, and benches—were clad in vertical Thermo Aspen, giving the space a heightened, elegant appearance. The vertical lines draw the eye upward, creating a sense of openness and sophistication despite the smaller footprint. Floating bench frames were crafted to the same standard, blending seamlessly with the wall cladding.

To complement the warm timber tones, a full glass sauna door was installed. This allows natural light to flow through, preventing the sauna from feeling enclosed while adding a sleek, modern touch that enhances the overall design.

FACILITIES
​
The sauna features a 2+1 bench configuration—two lower benches and one higher floating bench. The floating design, free of support legs, makes cleaning the floor space simple while reinforcing the sense of openness inside the sauna.

Concealed LED strip lighting has been subtly integrated to highlight the geometry of the benches and timber cladding. The soft glow enhances relaxation and creates a soothing ambience, while ensuring the space remains modern and luxurious.

HEATER
​
The sauna is powered by the HUUM CLIFF 9kW single-phase heater, a slim, elegant column heater known for its powerful yet even heat distribution. Its compact form factor makes it an ideal choice for a larger sauna, combining striking design with efficient performance.
​
The heater is paired with the HUUM UKU Glass Wi-Fi enabled controller, allowing the sauna to be preheated and managed remotely via smartphone. This state-of-the-art control system integrates modern convenience seamlessly into the traditional sauna experience, ensuring maximum flexibility for the client.
