LEISURE FACILITIES WHERE FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION

For this project in North Greenwich, London, we created a bespoke sauna and steam room for Riean Siam Wellness Spa & Sauna, delivering a luxurious wellness retreat for their clients. The installation combined high-quality craftsmanship with contemporary design, ensuring both spaces provide a calming, rejuvenating experience.

The sauna was constructed using a robust frame, fully insulated and finished with a slimline vapour barrier to guarantee performance and durability. Its interior was clad in premium Thermo Aspen, chosen for its refined, elegant appearance and resilience under commercial use. The adjoining steam room was finished in striking glass mosaic tiles, creating a vibrant contrast to the sauna’s warm timber aesthetic and enhancing the sense of indulgence within the spa.
The overall design reflects the needs of a professional wellness environment—durable, hygienic, and easy to maintain, yet also atmospheric and relaxing for guests. Subtle lighting and modern heating solutions were integrated to balance functionality with a welcoming ambience.
MATERIALS
​
The sauna interior is finished in Thermo Aspen, a refined sauna timber treated with heat to improve its stability and durability. Its deep, rich tones create a warm and inviting environment, while its smooth surface and natural resistance to heat make it perfectly suited for intensive, long-term use in a commercial setting.

In contrast, the steam room was clad entirely in glass mosaic tiles, chosen for their sleek, hygienic surface and luxurious finish. Every surface—from benches to ceiling—was carefully tiled to create a seamless, spa-grade installation. The combination of glowing timber in the sauna and shimmering mosaics in the steam room offers guests a choice of two complementary wellness experiences.

FACILITIES

The sauna features a 2+2 bench configuration, providing generous seating capacity for 5–6 guests. Floating benches were designed to enhance openness and simplify cleaning, while also maintaining a sleek, modern appearance. Concealed LED lighting highlights the clean lines of the timber cladding and benches, creating a soft and welcoming glow.

The steam room offers a single-tiered bench layout, ergonomically designed to maximise comfort and relaxation. The glass mosaic finish reflects subtle lighting beautifully, immersing guests in a calming, spa-like atmosphere.
