OPEN GLASS FRONTED SAUNA REPLACING A TIRED OLD BATHROOM

In Hampstead, London, we transformed a large bathroom into a bespoke home sauna, creating a luxurious retreat seamlessly integrated within the property. The project involved replacing an existing installation with a modern, high-performance sauna, carefully designed to balance comfort, practicality, and contemporary aesthetics.

The sauna was built with a strong timber frame, insulated throughout, and protected with a vapour barrier to ensure lasting performance. The interior was fully clad in Thermo Aspen, chosen for its warm tones, smooth finish, and durability under heat. Despite the compact footprint, the layout was optimised to provide a comfortable two-tier bench arrangement, allowing for both reclining and upright seating.

Discreet LED lighting and a frameless glass frontage elevate the space, giving the sauna a bright and open feel while maintaining a sense of intimacy. The result is a sleek, inviting installation that enhances the bathroom with a true wellness experience.

MATERIALS

The sauna interior is finished in Thermo Aspen, a premium heat-treated timber highly resistant to warping and wear. Its rich, golden tones and fine grain bring warmth and elegance to the space, while its naturally smooth texture ensures comfort even at high temperatures. Every surface—including walls, ceiling, and benches—was clad with precision, creating a harmonious and cohesive design.

The use of glass for the sauna door and fixed panel brings in natural light from the adjoining bathroom, ensuring the sauna feels connected to its surroundings while remaining a distinct sanctuary within the home.
