Bespoke Contemporary Hybrid Sauna: VIRGINIA WATER, SURREY

This sleek, custom-designed hybrid sauna merges the time-tested heat of Finnish sauna bathing with the modern benefits of infrared sauna therapy. Installed in a private residence in Virginia Water, it’s a perfect example of wellness innovation meeting timeless design.

Clean architectural lines, soft indirect lighting, and minimalist detailing create a striking yet calming space. The floating benches maximise internal space and allow for an open, airy feel, enhancing comfort and usability in a compact footprint.

MATERIALS
​
The entire sauna interior is finished in Aspen, a premium sauna timber known for its smooth texture, pale creamy colour, and knot-free appearance. Naturally resistant to heat and moisture, Aspen remains cool to the touch even at high temperatures, making it ideal for bench seating and wall cladding. The clean horizontal lines and recessed lighting add a contemporary, spa-like atmosphere to the room. The ceiling is accented in contrasting darker tones, creating a visual focal point and adding depth to the space.
FACILITIES

As a hybrid sauna, it combines traditional FINNISH sauna heater and infrared heating, allowing customers to switch between Loyly intense heat treatment and dry infrared therapy—or enjoy both in the same session. Three black ceiling-mounted infrared panels are prominently positioned, providing targeted, deep-penetrating heat while maintaining the minimalist, architectural aesthetic of the space.
HEATER
​
The heater installed in this project is the HUUM HIVE MINI 10.5kW, configured for single-phase power—ideal for residential sauna setups where space and power access are more limited. Despite its compact size, the HIVE MINI offers the same stunning aesthetic as HUUM's larger heaters, with a sleek, minimalist design and a large stone capacity that ensures gentle, long-lasting steam. Its open stone basket promotes efficient airflow and even heating, while the high stone volume softens the heat and steam for a more natural, enjoyable sauna experience.

Built from durable stainless steel and engineered for both performance and sustainability, the HIVE MINI combines craftsmanship with eco-consciousness. Paired with UKU Glass Wi-Fi enabled control panel, it offers smart, remote control through the HUUM mobile app—making it easy to preheat your sauna and customise your session from anywhere. The added benefit of the Glass Panel is that it also controls the infrared panels with the same interface.
